Who We Are

The #IMadeADoctor Foundation, also known as IMAD, is a South African Non-Profit Company established to build a long-term development pipeline for medical students, young doctors, and practicing healthcare professionals.

Founded in 2020 as a student-led support initiative at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, IMAD has grown from a grassroots fundraising movement into a formally registered institution with a broader mandate. The Foundation exists to move beyond short-term charity and create sustainable, system-level impact within the healthcare profession.

Our work focuses on removing financial and academic barriers for medical students while also developing leadership, entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and progressive clinical competence among qualified doctors.

1. Whole-Pipeline Development

IMAD supports both medical students and practicing doctors by focusing on access, academic support, leadership, entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and professional development.

2. Registered Non-Profit Company

The Foundation is formally registered as The #IMadeADoctor Foundation NPC, with registration number 2025 / 682674 / 08, operating as a Non-Profit Company in South Africa.

3.Founded in 2020

#IMadeADoctor Foundation began in 2020 as a student-led support initiative at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, created to assist financially distressed medical students.

Dr. Thanduxolo B. Cele

Founder and Chairperson.

Dr. Thanduxolo B. Cele is the Founder and Board Chair of the #IMadeADoctor Foundation, a Public Benefit Organisation. Alongside his work with IMAD, Dr. Cele is a Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He holds an MB ChB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Diploma in Obstetrics from the CMSA.

Alongside his work with IMAD, Dr. Cele is a Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He holds an MB ChB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Diploma in Obstetrics from the CMSA.

He believes that clinical excellence and institutional responsibility are inseparable, and that every doctor has a responsibility to leave the profession stronger than they found it.

Ms Nomhle Sithole

CEO BSS Geography, Sociology- UKZN | BA Honours in Environmental Management- UNISA

Nomhle is an Environmental Management professional and Corporate Social Responsibility Practitioner dedicated to advancing education, sustainability, and community development. Her professional experience spans the public, private, and non-profit sectors, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability, social innovation and empowering young people to become future leaders and changemakers.

Dr. Xoliswa Njapha

Co-founder & Director of Finance

Dr Njapha is a Medical Officer with a special interest in paediatrics. She is passionate about child health, education and women’s empowerment. Prior to co-founding #IMAD, she led a mentorship programme within her community, visiting her former high school and neighbouring schools to inspire learners to achieve improved matric outcomes.

Dr Njapha, a former SRC member at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, she gained valuable insight into student leadership and institutional advocacy, experiences that helped shape the vision behind the #IMadeADoctor Foundation.

Dr. Tholumusa Sibiya

Director of Administration & Operations MB ChB- UKZN | Dip in Primary Emergency Care

Dr Sibiya’s commitment to institutional leadership began during his student years, serving as a College Representative within the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s College of Health Sciences before being elected Chairperson of the Medical School Campus Representative Council. These roles cultivated a strong appreciation for organisational governance, accountability and effective administration.

As Board Secretary of the #IMadeADoctor Foundation, Dr. Sibiya oversees the organisation’s administrative governance and compliance, safeguarding the integrity of its corporate records, governance processes and institutional obligations.
